Valerie Riddle, MD, FACP
Dr. Riddle is a physician executive with over 15 years of experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. She began her medical career as an Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease physician at Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC, where she focused on the clinical care of patients with HIV/AIDS. In 1998, she became a physician executive in drug development, joining MedImmune, Inc., a rapidly-growing biotechnology company. Most recently, she was medical director of PharmAthene, Inc., leading the development of the company’s portfolio of biodefense therapeutics.
BioPharmAdvisors capitalizes on the broad range of skills Dr. Riddle has acquired through her medical practice and positions held in the biopharmaceutical industry. Those skills include a sound knowledge of internal medicine and infectious diseases, therapeutic and vaccine product development, application of the Food and Drug Administration’s “Animal Rule” for development of medical countermeasures for biological and chemical defense, Good Clinical Practices, and project and people management.
Valerie graduated cum laude from the University of South Florida with a BA in Chemistry in 1984; she received her MD from the University of South Florida in May 1989. She serves as Chair of the USF Morsani College of Medicine Alumni Society and is a member of the USF Foundation Board of Directors. She has been board certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Valerie is also a cancer survivor, outdoors lover and drumming enthusiast. She lives in Virginia with her husband, David and their dog, Kyle.
Elizabeth Leffel, PhD, MPH
The Principal of the Leffel Consulting Group, Dr. Leffel is a recognized leader in the field of aerobiology and inhalation infectious disease. She has served as VP of Preclinical and Nonclinical Programs, Terapio; Senior Director for Nonclinical Sciences at PharmAthene, Inc., Senior Aerobiologist at the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center; and at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), involved in select agent research projects in BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories. Dr. Leffel was trained as an immunotoxicologist, receiving her PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University (USA) and a Masters of Public Health at The Georgetown University (USA).
